Tips & Tricks: A Strong Doctor Patient Relationship can Help Improve your Health

Before the visit, write down a list of questions and concerns that you want to discuss with the doctor.

Bring a list of all your medications or bring your pill bottles.

Tell the doctor if you are having problems with any of your medications. Are you experiencing any side effects?

Ask about lab and screening tests that are generally given to someone your age, gender and with the same medical conditions.

Ask the doctor about the goals that have been set for you. Typically, doctors want to monitor things like blood sugar levels, cholesterol and blood pressure. Each patient will have different goals for these types of tests, depending on age, gender and medical conditions.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Bring a friend or family member.Sometimes it helps to have someone else with you during a doctor visit.

Share information about allergies and your family medical history.
